SBI Holdings and Startale Partner for Regulated Yen Stablecoin Launch
SBI Holdings and Startale Group are forging ahead with plans to launch a regulated Japanese yen stablecoin by Q2 2026. The partnership leverages Japan's new digital asset framework to create an alternative to dollar-dominated settlement systems.
The collaboration combines Startale's blockchain expertise—including work with Astar Network and Sony's Soneium project—with SBI's financial infrastructure. Shinsei Trust & Banking will handle issuance, while SBI VC Trade manages circulation through its licensed crypto exchange platform.
The initiative builds on existing joint ventures in tokenized securities and aligns with Japan's push for blockchain interoperability. "The token economy is irreversible," said SBI's Yoshitaka Kitao, positioning the yen stablecoin as infrastructure for global trade.
